Information for Teachers

New Mexico, 45 other states and the District of Columbia have adopted state-of-the-art guidelines known as the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). These standards raise expectations for students and teachers alike to levels that are globally competitive and responsive to the demands of the modern world. The CCSS have been benchmarked to international norms, developed over several years, research-tested, and proven to be effective in preparing students to be ready for college and the job market.

The New Mexico Common Core State Standards (NMCCSS) are a different approach to instruction. Teachers are asked to rethink and reinvent classroom practices, with the goal of imparting to all students a deeper understanding of the critical concepts in math and English language arts and the practical application of that knowledge. Teachers are the linchpin of success for students, schools and for themselves, as they will be utilizing the tools, strategies, curriculum and lesson plans that open up this rich and full world of teaching and learning.

Your districts and partners at the state level are engaging teachers in the professional collaborations that make it possible to fully implement the New Mexico Common Core State Standards in all grade levels over the next several years.
